Prayer
For people in prison and those who love them
Christ was arrested, held, and tried. He named prisoners in Matthew 25 for a reason.
Lord, you were taken into custody, questioned through the night, and condemned.
Be with everyone in a cell tonight: the guilty, the innocent, the forgotten, the frightened.
Be with their mothers, their children, and the people waiting for a phone call.
Be with the victims of what was done, whose need for justice and safety is real and must not be brushed aside in the name of mercy.
Keep me from thinking any person has stopped being a person.
Amen.
