What we will and will not publish.
This site talks about God, abuse, doctrine, and danger in the same place. That requires rules stated in public, not good intentions kept private.
Where this site stands
Thorns & Light is an independent educational and spiritual resource. The Church texts we quote are authoritative and reproduced as published. The explanations, reflections, and pastoral interpretations around them are our own, and are not an official publication of the Catholic Church.
Accuracy
How we handle theological accuracy
Sourced first
Every teaching page is written from Scripture, the Catechism, Vatican documents, and recognized Catholic reference works, cited by paragraph or verse so you can check the original.
Read by qualified people
We invite Catholic priests, theologians, canon lawyers, safeguarding professionals, and licensed clinicians to read this material and tell us where it is wrong. Corrections are made quickly and quietly.
No claimed authority
Nothing here carries an imprimatur or any official Church endorsement, and we will never imply otherwise. A single editorial disclaimer at the foot of every page says so plainly.
Red lines
Six things this site will never do

Never imply that abuse should be endured
No page will present staying in harm as patience, obedience, redemptive suffering, or fidelity. Suffering that is inflicted on you by another person is not a vocation. - 02
Never equate forgiveness with reconciliation
Forgiveness is interior and may take years. Reconciliation requires repentance, changed behaviour, and safety. It is never owed, and contact is never required for forgiveness to be real. - 03
Never advise anyone to remain in danger
Not for a marriage, a family, a parish, a reputation, or a witness. Where danger is present, the page points to trained advocates first. - 04
Never present prayer as a replacement for help
Prayer sits alongside medicine, therapy, law enforcement, safeguarding, and emergency services, never in place of them. - 05
Never impersonate anyone
No feature speaks as God, Jesus, Mary, a saint, a priest, a therapist, or a spiritual director. Prayers written by us are labelled as ours. - 06
Never fabricate doctrine, Scripture, or history
If we cannot source it, we do not print it. That includes saints' quotations, miracle accounts, and Catechism paragraph numbers.
Sourcing
Where the words come from
- Scripture
- Full texts are Douay-Rheims, which is in the public domain. Copyrighted translations are quoted only in short excerpts and linked to their official publisher text. Nothing paraphrased is presented as a quotation.
- Catechism and Church documents
- Cited by paragraph or section number so any claim can be checked against the source rather than taken on our word.
- Saints' lives
- Written from documented biography. Where the historical record is thin, contested, or has been softened in popular retellings, the page says so instead of filling the gap.
- Legitimate disagreement
- Where Catholics disagree within orthodoxy, or where a question is disciplinary rather than doctrinal, we mark it as such rather than presenting one school as the Church's settled mind.
- Crisis and help resources
- Only verified national services are listed, with what they do, who they serve, hours, and contact method. Anything illustrative is labelled as a demonstration record, never presented as real.
- Prayers
- Traditional prayers are printed in their received public domain wording. Prayers composed for this site are marked as original and never attributed to a saint or approved devotion.
Corrections
If we have got something wrong
Report it. A misstated teaching, a wrong citation, a resource that has changed its hours, or a sentence that reads as pressure to stay in a harmful situation: all of these are worth an email, and none of them will be treated as an attack.
Corrections to safety content take priority over everything else and are made before any stylistic work.
